New Hamburg ON lies on the outskirts of Waterloo Region in Wilmot Township. It’s really the last stop along highway 7/8 before you head onto Shakespeare and then Stratford. This place is one of my favourites in the region – it’s got some awesome restaurants, good schools, the perfect touch of nature, amazing homes and properties, and a great small-town feel supported by the classic architecture. Real estate here is on the rise but you can still get a little more bang for your buck than other parts of the region likely due to New Hamburg’s relative location. I, for one, would encourage anyone looking for a home around here to consider New Hamburg ON, it’s beautiful!

Right through the heart of New Hamburg ON runs the Nith River. The Nith originates in the northern part of Waterloo Region, heads out to Perth county and then makes its way back to eventually empty into the Grand River in Paris. The River is a great place to fish for Northern Pike, and Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass. It also attracts a ton of other wildlife which has created some great views for the nine thousand or so local residents. Just outside the north side of town are the Nith River Campgrounds, and to the south you can find Walker Woods with some great hiking trails.
All of The Region of Waterloo here!
Among the many small parks and trails in New Hamburg ON, you can find Hincks Park with some playground equipment for the tykes, William Scott Park with the largest working wooden water wheel in North America, and the Township of Wilmot Arboretum, a great place for family or wedding phots.
When searching for homes in New Hamburg ON, my clients always have a list of questions and concerns but knowing what the options are for their kid’s educations is always top of the list. New Hamburg is home to three elementary schools, Forest Glen Public School which I believe runs from Junior Kindergarten to grade eight, Grandview Public School, Kindergarten to grade six, and from the Catholic School Board, Holy Family School; and when it’s time for High School, the kids will likely head to Waterloo Oxford which just so happens to be located in town. Due to the size of the town, the schools are all pretty accessible. For instance, if you lived on the north edge of town, on say, Hostetler Road, your kids would attend Forest Glen, which puts you at about a five minute walk or one minute drive.
